The Unified Court System's Attorney Emeritus Program has launched a new website (www.nycourts.gov/attorneys/volunteer/emeritus/rsaa) with an interactive map and other enhancements to connect senior attorneys with local pro bono opportunities. Established in 2010 in response to the ongoing crisis in the availability of civil legal services, the program was designed to make senior lawyer pro bono as convenient as possible. Originally open to retired attorneys 55 and older with at least 10 years of legal experience, the program was later expanded to include non-retirees. Participants must commit to at least 30 hours annually of unpaid legal assistance to low-income clients in civil and family matters. Retired volunteers are exempt from the state's mandatory CLE requirements and biennial $375 attorney registration fee.
